This is the heartwarming moment kind villagers plunged into a muddy pond to rescue a trapped dog and serow looking for water in Thailand.

Locals found the two animals wading through the mud in the 10ft deep pool filled with water in Kanchanaburi province on April 22.

The pair had apparently fallen while searching for water to drink amid the scorching heat as temperatures reached 42 degrees Celsius during the heat wave across Asia.

Local community leader Prarob Pathomphethai gathered other villagers to help haul the animals out of the pond.

Footage shows the rescuers tying up the goat-like serow first while it was cowering in a corner. They bound its feet, fearing it might charge and gore them in its agitated state, before pulling it up to dry land.

After checking it wasn't injured, the volunteers released the serow and rescued the stray dog using the same method.

Suttinun Tangkoblab, the village headman who found the dog, said that he was foraging for vegetables when he heard the dog's cries, which prompted him to investigate the well.

He said: 'The serow might have been chased by the dog, or both may have been searching for water. There are around 20 serows roaming this area.'
