Torrential downpours have triggered landslides in Indonesia, causing extensive damage and disrupting traffic. Footage captured on Saturday (April 27, 2024) along the Bukittinggi-Danau Maninjau road via Panta in Agam Regency, West Sumatra Province, shows a 40-foot cliff collapsing, trees uprooted, and debris covering the road below.

Local residents have been assisting in clearing the roads with makeshift tools. Vehicles attempting to pass through the area must wait their turn while crews work to clear the debris.

Panta Village Head Syahril Ramadhan stated that the landslide was triggered by heavy rain the previous night. "This cliff collapsed last night. This morning, we started clearing the debris while waiting for the Backhoe Loader excavator to finish clearing landslides elsewhere," he said.

At least three landslides have been reported in the area, blocking roads. The limited availability of heavy machinery and persistent rain have hampered efforts to clear the debris effectively.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and be aware of the potential for further landslides.
