A pair of hero dogs saved a lost toddler from drowning in a pond at a rubber plantation in Thailand.

The loyal pooches named Kung Fu and Man-U accompanied the youngster Premmanan Promsiri, 2, when he wandered away from his home in Bueng Kan province on October 12 morning.

As his parents were out at work, Premmanan had decided to go exploring on his own, but ended up plunging into a pond at the property. Luckily, the quick-thinking canines grabbed onto his shirt and dragged him back onto the banks before he could drown.

Panida Pookasin, 35, a villager who lived nearby, said she heard the commotion and hurried over to find the two dogs battling to save Premmanan. She rushed to help the boy and found him covered in cuts and mosquito bites.

She said: 'I tried talking to the boy, but we couldn't understand each other so I asked for help from a rescue team. They managed to locate his parents, and they came by to pick him up.'

Footage shows the Premmanan's relatives emotional upon being reunited with him. The exhausted toddler, who had minor injuries on his legs and cheeks, had fallen asleep from the ordeal.

Premmanan's dad Wisarut Phongsiri, 39, said he went out early in the morning to tap rubber trees, but his son and the dogs had gone missing when he returned at around 8 am.

He said he had spent the entire morning looking for the tot and also scoured a nearby pond fearing he had drowned, before he was contacted by the rescue team saying they had the boy.

Wisarut said: 'I will forever be grateful to the two dogs for saving my boy. They are like members of the family. It's a miracle he will be OK now.'

Premmanan has been taken to the Bueng Khong Long Hospital for a check-up. Meanwhile, local authorities urged parents to always be mindful of their children.

Bueng Khong Long District Chief Colonel Kittiphong Yodchaiyapetch said: 'Parents must closely monitor their children. If they are not present, ask a family member or someone they trust to look after the kids. Children should not be left alone.'
