Security officers ordered a group of teenagers to do squats and push-ups for carrying knives during a Buddhist festival in Thailand.

Volunteer Defense Corps officials detained the youths who were loitering near a riverbank during a religious celebration in Samut Prakan province on October 26.

The officers summoned the suspicious young men aged 15 to 18, frisking them and finding three knives hidden under their clothes.

As punishment for carrying the deadly weapons, the teens had to complete 50 squats and 50 push-ups in front of festival-goers.

A Volunteer Defense Corps member, scolding the youths, said: ‘You are all still very young, and it is not worth it to cause trouble and destroy your future.

‘Consider your parents and how distressed they will be if that happens.'

The boys were later let off with a stern warning.

Police and local authorities had tightened security as devotees flocked to the province on the last day of worshipping the Phra Samut Chedi.
