Groom gifts bride's family 'unending' chain of banknotes as wedding dowry
A groom pulled an 'unending' chain of banknotes from a handbag to impress his bride's family in Thailand.
Newlywed Thapakorn performed the magic-like trick in front of the amused crowd, whipping out a long string of 20 Baht (0.46 GBP) bills at his wedding in Ubon Ratchathani province on May 27.
Wedding organiser Oradee Chanla said: 'There were so many banknotes at the wedding. I'm sure the bride's family is very happy.'
In Thailand, a dowry or 'Sin Sod' is given by the groom to his bride's family to compensate them for 'losing' their daughter. It is also seen as proof that the husband can take care of his wife financially.
Thai families take the payments incredibly seriously as it is also a way to show off to neighbours - with some relatives even renting wads of cash and gold to put on display.
