This is the heartwarming moment a heroic man rescued a drowning kitten from a dirty canal.

Jirayu Wongsanong, 27, was relaxing at home with his girlfriend when they heard a kitten crying in Bangkok, Thailand on September 22.

The couple, together with their nephew, searched for the source of the sound and spotted the tiny moggie struggling to stay afloat in the canal next to a bridge.

The animal lover’s boyfriend then took a dustpan and clung on the bridge rails before using the cleaning tool to scoop the kitten out of the water.

Proud girlfriend Bejawab Dangchat, 30, said: ‘The kitten’s cry was loud. We knew it needed help as it was barely moving in the water.’

The exhausted ginger cat then climbed up the dustpan and was taken to the ground safely. It was not injured but it appeared hungry so the couple took it home and fed it with some milk on a bottle.

After being cleaned up, the couple decided to adopt the kitten and named it Boon-Rod.
