Footage shows a powerful tornado that killed at least five people and injured dozens more in China.

The extreme weather also damaged more than 150 factories in the industrial heartland when it struck Guangdong, southern China, on April 27.

Officials said the brunt of the tornado was focused around Zhongluotan town in the Baiyun district of Guangzhou where the devastation was in a one-kilometre radius.

The Liangtian village weather station, around 2.8 kilometres (1.7 miles) away from the tornado, recorded a maximum gust of 20.6 metres (67 feet) per second (level eight). The weather affected the four villages of Guangming, Chendong, Jinpen and Liangtian in Zhongluotan.

Officials in Baiyun said they have provided disaster relief and rescue work.

Forecasters predict that in the next five days, precipitation will continue to be frequent in Guangdong, with obvious strong convection characteristics.

Thunderstorms will be accompanied by strong convective weather such as short-term heavy precipitation, short-term strong winds of levels eight to 11, and hail.
