Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts held a mass stretching session on an airport runway.

The incredible workout took place on the new third runway at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) serving Bangkok, Thailand, on April 27.

More than 500 participants, including seasoned yogis, aviation lovers, and Muay Thai enthusiasts, unrolled their yoga mats against the backdrop of arriving and departing commercial flights.

As the sun rose, the fitness fanatics immersed themselves in downward posing dogs and baby poses, guided by the rhythmic beats and instructor's voice.

They then did a series of Muay Thai boxing punch sequences to add an intense touch of cardio to the routine.

A spokesman for the organisers Brew Yoga said the event was held to promote 'wellness tourism' in Thailand.

They said: 'This yoga session is focused on moving, stretching, sipping and laughing only. No advanced skills are required as the session has been designed to be friendly for those who don't normally practice yoga too.

'This was the first and only yoga event in Thailand's history to have taken place on runway three of Suvarnabhumi Internationa; Airport.'

The state-owned airport's new third runway will increase its capacity from 67 flights per hour to 94 flights per hour when it is fully operational in July this year.

Heathrow Airport in London has just two runways, with attempts by bosses to add a third being blocked by residents concerned with noise pollution.

Thailand's Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said the third runway will make the country 'an aviation hub for the region'.
