A far-right German politician has been arrested over an alleged drugs-fueled rampage on a Thai island.

Niels Foitzik, a member of the AFD, sparked panic when he allegedly began throwing food and pushing over plates in a restaurant on Koh Phi Phi in southern Thailand on Thursday night, April 11.

Police arrived but could not understand his ramblings. He was fined 1,000 Baht (25.73 Euro) for ‘disorderly conduct and inability to maintain consciousness while on a public road' before being released.

However, Niels, 32, from Berlin, was picked up again the following night.

He is seen in the video resisting while being bundled into an ambulance by four cops and three paramedics. He was then handcuffed to a stretcher and wheeled into the vehicle.

The tourist was checked over at the hospital before being held in custody while officials at the German Embassy in Bangkok prepared for him to be deported.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wittaya Thongkong of Ao Nang Police Station in Krabi said officers received an emergency call from residents being irritated by the German.

Officers then found Niels rambling incoherently to locals on a residential street. They believe he had taken cannabis, which is legal - but said to be dangerously potent - and widely available in the country.

The policeman said: ‘Initially, from the symptoms, officers suspect that this man probably secretly took some drugs. However, the amount was too high for him, causing him to lose control. Fortunately, he did not harm anyone.

‘Officials tried to negotiate with him for nearly two hours until finally, they had to help push the man's body into a rescue vehicle to take him to the hospital, but he still resisted.

‘Finally, both police and rescue workers had to help each other lock him and attach him to the field stretcher. He was taken to the hospital to rest and calm down first. After that, we will coordinate with the Embassy to inform relatives, so he can be taken to another country.'

Police said that Niels was fined over the first incident on the island. He had cuts on his forehead so they sent him to the local hospital on the mainland in Krabi.

However, he discharged himself and was picked up for a second time the following night when he began wandering through homes in Krabi province talking to residents, with the same beach towel draped over his shoulders.

Speaking about the first incident, Police Colonel Surasak Jaidee, superintendent of Koh Phi Phi Police Station, said: ‘The tourist showed signs of being drunk to the point of losing consciousness. Then he went on a rampage, destroying things inside a store on the island.

‘Officers went to stop the incident. He didn't hurt anyone, so he was detained and checked at the hospital before he was then taken to the police station to be fined according to law for disorderly conduct and inability to maintain consciousness while on a public road.

‘He was fined 1,000 baht and then sent back to the mainland to go to the hospital.'
