Traffic police secured safe passage for stranded vehicles on an icy highway in northern China.

The video was filmed in Pingyang City in Shanxi Province on December 13.

Traffic police from the Shanxi Highway Patrol Sixth Team Fourth Squadron, along with officers from the Hebei Xibaipo Highway Patrol, used a convoy of patrol cars to lead the more than 1,700 stranded vehicles on an icy road on Beijing-Kunming Expressway.

The convoy, stretching about 6 kilometres, was escorted by joint efforts of traffic police from the two provinces. All vehicles were safely escorted from the Hebei Jingxingbei Service Area to the Shanxi Dongliang Toll Station, covering a distance of over 80 kilometres.

Subsequently, the convoy was handed over to the Shanxi Highway Patrol First Team Seventh Squadron to complete the escort relay.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
