Wednesday 13 December 2023 - Indian descendants living in Padang City, West Sumatra Province, Indonesia, held the Serak Gulo tradition or throwing granulated sugar.

This tradition is held at the Muhammadan Mosque which is also an area for people of Indian descent in the city of Padang.

There were around thousands of people present at this activity and also fought over the sugar which was thrown from the top of the mosque.

The people who took part were not only of Indian descent, but also society in general in the city of Padang. The people fighting over sugar consist of adults and children.

The granulated sugar obtained from this activity is allowed to be taken home, because in the Serak Gulo tradition it is distributed free of charge.

The Serak Gulo tradition is carried out by wrapping granulated sugar in a hand-sized lump of colorful cloth.

In today's tradition, three tons of granulated sugar were distributed during this activity, which was collected through the Muhammadan Family Association (PKM).

The granulated sugar was transported to the roof of the mosque, then thrown down, where there were thousands of people ready to scramble to take the granulated sugar.
