A Saudi Arabian tourist was injured when a tuktuk hit him he was stepping off a curb in Thailand.

Meshari Midad Alotaibi, 38, was clattered by the passenger vehicle in front of the Aspery Hotel in Phuket on September 13.

CCTV footage shows how the holidaymaker was flung several feet and appeared to have been knocked unconscious when he was struck by the passing vehicle.

The driver Ekkarak, 38, immediately parked the tuktuk and rushed Meshari to the Patong Hospital.

He was later reported to have surrendered himself to the Patong Police for investigations.

A police report said that Ekkarak had been driving from the Baan Laimai Beach Resort & Spa before he collided with the tourist.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
