Small boat sailors took part in Kent's version of the 'Round the Island Race' in fine weather today (September 3).

Isle Of Sheppey (IOS) Sailing Club have been organising a race for sailing dinghies, catamarans and sailboards around the Isle Of Sheppey since 1959.

Today, 32 craft took part in the 65th race, which starts and finishes at Sheerness and is a clockwise circumnavigation of the island.

The race is billed as the UK's longest of its kind at up to 40 miles and features sea, river & estuary sailing.

At the Kingsferry Bridge, competitors are required by the rules to come ashore and capsize their craft to get underneath the road & rail bridge built in 1960.
