This is the dramatic moment rescuers ziplined over raging floods to save stranded children during Super Typhoon Saola's onslaught in the Philippines.

Footage shows local volunteers using ropes to cross the torrents surging through Gonzaga town in Cagayan province on August 29. They carried six trapped villagers - including three children aged 2, 5, and 6 - to safety.

The Cagayan provincial disaster office said at least 388 people have been moved to evacuation centres or sought shelter with relatives due to the typhoon.

Typhoon Saola, known locally as 'Goring', intensified into a super typhoon on August 27, state weather agency PAGASA said.

It tore through the Philippines' northern provinces over the weekend, displacing more than 2,000 people, officials said.

PAGASA said Saola had re-intensified to super typhoon strength late Tuesday evening as approached the country's northernmost island of Batanes. It was expected to maintain its strength as it churns northwest toward Taiwan before slamming into southern China and Hong Kong.
