A woman was caught on camera stealing and eating durian fruit in a supermarket in northern China.

The CCTV footage was filmed in the city of Datong in Shanxi Province on July 3 shows a woman peeling and eating the durian while no one was watching. A man nearby soon followed her lead and began to consume the fruit as well.

After finishing the durian fruit, the woman hid the husks under the ice compartment.

According to the supermarket manager, the irregularity with the durian stock was only discovered after reviewing the security footage.

It was the first time an incident of this nature has occurred. The culprits opened four durians in total and took out several chambers from each, leaving the remaining durian difficult to sell.

The leftover durians were consumed by the supermarket staff, resulting in a loss of nearly a thousand yuan (£108).

The police have been informed about the situation, and it is hoped that the offenders will voluntarily compensate for the loss.
