Bright yellow blossom lines three mile stretch of road in Thailand
Golden shower flowers in Northeastern Thailand bloomed in a once-a-year phenomenon, welcoming tourists just before the Songkran Festival.
The spectacular yellow blossom brightened up the three-mile stretch of the Kanlapaphruek Road in Khon Kaen province with more than 400 trees in full bloom.
Khemchat Somjaiwong, the Honorary President of Khon Kaen Chamber of Commerce, said almost all the golden shower trees blossom every year when the country enters the annual hot season. They are also the 'national flower of Thailand'.
He said: 'The golden shower trees planted by the people of Khon Kaen have been blooming beautifully in many locations, especially along the main road, since the month of March this year.
'In addition to showcasing the identity of Khon Kaen, the blooming of these golden shower trees also signals the start of the Songkran Festival tourism season this year.
'It was evident that both tourists and locals, including people from neighbouring provinces and foreign visitors, were taking the time to park their cars and capture selfies with the golden shower trees and flowers throughout the day.'
Khemchat said that the golden shower trees typically bloom from the end of February to the middle of May, but they display their most vibrant and beautiful yellow blossoms from the end of March to mid-April.
In addition to the main road, tourists can also enjoy the beautiful sights of golden shower flowers at various tourist destinations and community areas.
Golden shower trees are also known by their scientific name Cassia fistula, or simply golden shower, purging cassia, Indian laburnum, or the pudding-pipe tree.
