Hero residents rescued a kitten drowning in a dirty canal.

A couple found the feline clinging to the cement while struggling to stay afloat in the polluted water in Bangkok, Thailand.

They used a 10ft-long stick to fish the creature out of the polluted water before their neighbours helped save the animal.

Footage shows the couple sitting on the ledge using the bamboo pole to reach the cat. Their neighbour arrived with a ladder which he used to climb down the canal.

Onlooker Tay Taff said: ‘They first saw the cat a day before it was rescued but there was a heavy storm. My neighbour said he couldn't take the kitten out of his head so he returned with his wife.

‘Together, they tried to save the cat. When more people saw them, they also lent them their help. It was amazing.'

The couple's proud son watched his parents from behind the railings as they saved the cat together.

A neighbour had to dip half of his body in the dark stinky water to scoop the cat out of the water.

Tay added: ‘The couple adopted the cat. It was not hurt. I hope the kitten lives a long life.'
