Footage shows visitors enjoying the ruins of an ancient Buddhist temple which has become a popular tourist destination in Thailand.

The building is said to have been built in the 1600s during the Ayutthaya period but it was abandoned around 100 years ago in Ang Thong province.

Locals have now given the Wat Sang Kratai Temple a new lease of life, with hundreds of people a ay visiting the religious site to pray.

The large Bodhi trees which entwine the temple also give it a striking appearance, with locals doing the gardening and maintenance to keep the temple safe. The structure's Ubosot, also known as the ordination hall, contains relics from distinguished monks who lived at the temple.

Ayyutha is a historical city that is filled with ancient ruins of Buddhist temples, which were attacked and destroyed by the Burmese invaders.
