A so-called 'rain handler' was brought out to halt a downpour at Indonesia's Mandalika Circuit, where the MotoGP Indonesian Grand Prix was being held on March 20.

The woman, Rara Istiani Wulandari, used traditional rituals believed to help ward off rain, as she walked around the motorbike racetrack.

Her activities, which met with some meteorological success, have been reported in international media, including the German-language SpeedWeek and Spanish-language Mundo Deportivo, among others.

SpeedWeek's writer praised the effects of Ms Wulandari's ritual: "The (weather) conditions improved significantly".

The official MotoGP account also uploaded videos of the handler performing rituals to ward off rain.

When the rain stopped, the official MotoGP Twitter account tweeted: "THANK YOU for stopping the rain!"

The Mandalika MotoGP ended with Miguel Oliveira coming out as champion, followed by Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco.
