A fire erupted in the South African parliament building in Cape Town early on Sunday morning. The alarm was raised at 5 am.

According to Jermaine Carelse, City of Cape Town fire and rescue service's spokesperson, the blaze broke out on the third-floor offices and then spread to the National Assembly chamber.

No injuries have been reported and the cause of the fire remains unknown. 36 firefighters were deployed to the scene.
