The young man was leaping into the reservoir and splashing in the waterfall when his foot got stuck in a small concrete gap on Wednesday (October 23).

Fisherman, Loi Wajsin, noticed him struggling in the rapids and called for emergency services for help.

It is not the first time a boy needed rescuing while playing in the reservoir.

"I once had to jump into the water to save a boy who was drowning and about to be washed away with the strong current. Despite the accidents, the place is still popular for local boys who like to risk their lives playing in a dangerous place," Loi said.

The rescue team arrived and spent about an hour before they could lift the boy out. He was uninjured but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Local sheriff, Somchai Ruengjan, ordered a sign to be erected to prevent other youngsters from going in the water.

Loi threw a rope for the boy to hold on to and gathered residents to help drag him to safety, but the current was too strong and his foot was stuck.

The rescue team arrived and spent an hour before they could lift the boy out. They found he was uninjured but he was taken to hospital to be checked.

Loi said that he was worried because this is not the first time a boy had needed rescuing while he was playing in the reservoir.

He said: "I once had to jump into the water and save a boy who was drowning and about to be washed away with the strong current.

"Despite the accidents, the place is still popular for local boys who like to risk their lives playing in a dangerous place."

Local sheriff Somchai Ruengjan ordered a sign to be erected to prevent other youngsters from going in the water.

He said: "I have already ordered my subordinates to put a 'keep away' sign next to the dam and I've asked local people to warn their children not to swim here. We need to help each other to prevent a tragedy happening."
